Error: Destination folder already exists

Last update: 16 November, 2017

The error:

Destination folder already exists.

Cause

A plugin cannot be installed if the folder already exists. This happens when the plugin is already installed, if a file is missing or corrupt, or if you have renamed the wp-content folder.

Solution

If the plugin appears in your plugin dashboard, please manually update the plugin via FTP. If you don’t know what FTP is, you can contact your host.

If the plugin does not appear in the plugin dashboard, you likely have a missing or corrupt Yoast plugin file. Please delete the Yoast plugin’s folder (the folder is called wordpress-seo by default) via FTP and install a fresh copy of the plugin.
