Installation Guide for Video SEO
Using the Video SEO plugin is very, very easy. Please make sure you’ve activated Yoast SEO or Yoast SEO Premium already, as it is required for the Video SEO plugin to work. As soon as you’ve paid for the plugin you’ll receive an email with a download link and a license key, looking something like this:
You simply download the zip file and then go to Plugins → Add New. Here you click on the Upload link:
Once you’ve clicked that link you’ll click the “Choose File” button, locate the zip file on your computer and then press “Install Now”.
It should upload well, after which you should click “Activate Plugin”:
Now that the plugin is active, you should have a new Video SEO menu item in your SEO menu:
To activate Video SEO, so to SEO → Extensions → Licenses. Enter your license key and press ‘Save Changes’ or ‘Activate License’.
Once your license is activated, the license screen will look like this.
Be sure to select the post types that might contain video and then click the “Re-Index Videos” button. You don’t have to do this after publishing a new post, but you have to do it now to make sure all your older videos are recognized by the Video SEO plugin.
If you’re using a theme that stores videos in a custom field, try looking up that custom field and then adding that in the text box under General Settings. This makes sure the Video SEO plugin will check that custom field for videos too.
Once that process is done, if you already had videos, the XML Video Sitemap should show those. You’re all good to go, if you want to learn how to use the Video SEO plugin, we’ve written a Video SEO Configuration Guide!
